Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese body therapy based on the principles of oriental medicine. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions and to promote vitality. Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and helps you to connect with your body’s own natural healing abilities.

You may have heard people say that they have no energy, or that they feel stuck and tired. People’s backs, shoulders, knees or stomach are tense or tight and yet on close examination little or nothing appears to be wrong. In Eastern medicine these symptoms are seen as blocked energy, not flowing easily and freely.

Shiatsu, is gentle and sometimes more vigorous manipulation of the body using stretches and stimulation of the acupuncture points with fingers, hands and sometimes the feet. These are the attempts to release stuck energy encouraging easy, free movement and restoring balance within the whole person. This bodywork is done over loose clothing and is normally practices lying on a futon. Each treatment is tailored to the individuals needs. The practitioner looks at the client and questions them to find the imbalances within the body system, then works on certain meridians (these are the energy channels within the body). The aim is to bring your body back into balance and feel renewed.
